“WE ARE SUPER EXCITED TO HAVE SHALA AS A PARTICIPANT 8:30 PM – 8:49 PM ON JULY 18TH”

Olusola “Shala.” Akintunde is a Nigerian American social impact artist, multimedia producer and pioneer in the medium of Solar Art. He is best known for the creation of his infamous portrait series, Shala’s Seven Spoon and his groundbreaking solar murals and sculptures; particularly Shala’s Bronzeville Solar Pyramid. Shala’s Solar Pyramid is a 15 foot tall solar-paneled pyramid covered in iconography. It is the first of its kind. Aside from his solar work, he produces music and interactive art installations for various event commissions and films. He has several recordings on the film, Polish Bar and often performs his work as a DJ at various appearances. Shala’s work challenges social convention in a charming, yet, confronting way. As a consequence, the artwork itself is expressed through re-examined forms of media and technology. For example, his solar-powered murals utilize the solar panel as a canvas to provide beauty and electricity. His candid artist talks are quickly gaining notoriety and he routinely speaks at various institutions of higher learning; often following up with a unique DJ set.

Glappitnova unites different types of people and perspectives into a space sharing what matters most. In return, we all grow getting exposed to new things, insights, and much more. The Chicago space is a swanky massive warehouse off an alley with multiple rooms of activity. There is a mixture of storytelling, performances, panels, art exhibitions and good people. Each day has different programming and we recommend you get an accessible VIP ticket for hidden surprises and new year-long program launches. Tickets will not be sold at the door and this is a private 21 an older event.
