Habits of the Successful
You ever wonder how the successful get, well successful? To most it seems as if an overnight phenomenon takes over and the next day, success is knocking at the door. Although most would welcome this with open arms, the reality is, success comes to those who work hard and also form quality habits along the way. Call it a habit or ritual, but whatever you choose to name it, making it a part of your routine to help you further reach your goals is a must.
Adding good habits to your routine is essentially self development. Deciding to wake up early to meditate for 30 minutes or take a new class, you are unconsciously creating building blocks leading you to success. Habits keep you in line with what you need to do.
Wanting to find out more about the habits of the super successful , I ran across an article by Joel Brown who broke down 7 habits for those wanting to go above and beyond.
Habit 1 – The To-Do List
I have not only read about the to do list in this particular article, but I have also talked to other entrepreneurs who do this to keep them on track and in line with what they need to accomplish for the day. It’s essential to create one either the night before or the morning of to get a head start and not get caught up in unnecessary tasks. Just get a small notebook, write down everything you want to get done for the day and mark them off once completed. You’ll not only be that much closer to your goals, but you will also enjoy the small victory of tackling your list for the day.
Habit 2 – Healthy Mind, Body, and Soul
Health is important. Having a healthy mind, body, and soul is idea in order to function at your best. Whether its hitting up the gym for an hour, taking yoga classes, or sitting still and fully engaging in meditation, you are doing yourself a huge favor and allowing every part of you to align itself to provide clarity and perspective. So hit up that yoga studio or find your quite nook and ohm your way into a peaceful state of mind.
Habit 3 – Ready, Set, Goal
You’re an entrepreneur or want to become an entrepreneur, so you obviously have goals, big and small. One of the best things you can do is write them down. Not just once or twice, write them down everyday. The more you force yourself to put them in front of you daily, the more it will motivate you to carry out those goals. Give yourself a timeframe and attack it from there.
Habit 4 – Get Rid of the Debby Downer Syndrome
“I can’t”, “it’s too hard”, “but”, all of this negative thinking and talking does nothing to bring you closer to where you want to be. Only positive talk and self affirmations as well as being grateful for the journey you are on will make the circumstances of where you are currently that much better. When you speak positive and remain grateful, you receive that in return. It’s all about aligning your thinking process with the goals you want to achieve. When everything is on one accord, it forms a powerful weapon.
Habit 5 – Building Blocks
In order to be successful, you must constantly evolve. It’s good to have deep experience and understanding in a particular subject, but what makes you a triple threat? Go above and beyond your level of expertise by learning something new. Stay ahead of the curve, add new skills to your already outstanding body of work. Even if you are an expert in your field, you still don’t know it all. No one does, but by building upon what you have already have will take you farther than you can imagine. Take that Skillshare class, go listen to that new podcast you just uploaded. I guarantee you’ll learn something you didn’t know before.
Habit 6 – Talk that Talk
Networking is important. This saying will forever and always be true, “Your net worth is only as good as your network.” You have to get out there and meet new people. Just imagine the many people you pass walking to work. You never know what impact they could have on your life. It’s as simple as saying hello. However don’t exchange a business card and think you will get an immediate response from that action alone. Relationships are just like flowers, you have to water them in order for to see growth. If they are meant to be a part of your journey, the relationship you gain with them will not be created in vain.
Habit 7 – Accountability Counts
It’s easy to get off track or have a day or week where you just completely fall off, get overwhelmed, or just can’t seem to find the motivation, but that’s when you turn to your accountability partner. This should be someone who has the same fire as you or where you are trying to be. Successful people have mentors or accountability partners that encourage them, help them stay on track, or are just there to lend an ear when you hit that bump in the road. It’s good to add these people to your arsenal because at the end of the day, they are your cheerleaders. They believe in you and your process. This helps you not only get closer to your goals, but stay on track and help you realize you are not alone in this.
Habits are hard to break and hard to stick to, but try to add one habit to your daily routine and build from there. You will only see improvement in your overall success and you will better align yourself with what you are truly meant to do. Just try one or two of these habits and see how far you will go.
