Behind The Scenes: University of Chicago’s Xavier Ramey
Xavier Ramey is a Chicago-born social strategist serving as the Senior Assistant Director for Social Innovation and Philanthropy at the University of Chicago. His background includes working as a Senior Program Manager overseeing $4m in philanthropic funds for United Way of Metro Chicago, as a consultant for several NGOs in Kenya and Ethiopia, a Development Director for a small nonprofit in Chicago’s North Lawndale community, and as a co-founder of a commodity trading firm based at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. His out-of-office work consists of being a radical voice for change within systems of power. He is a social justice-focused speaker for several online publications and radio stations and works as a prison abolitionist-activist with The #LetUsBreathe Collective. He is the founder of a photography company that serves to document social justice activity in the Midwest, and serves on multiple Board of Directors across the city.
