Actor, singer, writer, multi-media artist. Brandon Markell Holmes is a formally trained theatre actor who curates common ground in creative story telling and abstract exposition. His work themes are reflective of social observations and the symbiotic relationship between art & history. Brandon’s premiere works include a visual EP entitled, Inertia, featured on Afropunk, Art’s Incubator with The University of Chicago, and in conjunction with OpenTV Beta at North Western University, as well as a collaboration with international recording artist The Gorillaz on “Circle of Friendz” off their 2017 album, Humanz.
Brandon’s debut full-length, The Museum of R&B, will be releasing in August 2017. The antithesis births from the notion in which R&B music is dead or no longer relevant in the American cannon of music, but also, in a way, challenges the idea of medium genre and artistic class. At times, people tend to say, “This is fine art, and that is fine art…” and try to keep art in a box, which seems to be rooted in discriminatory practices when it comes to art, institution, and marginalizing a culture. The Museum of R&B stands as an upheaval of an argument of those perspectives.
Anthony “Twilite Tone” Khan; mentor, BMI award winning, Grammy nominated producer & Chicago-pioneer of hip-hop and house music, has been closely involved in Brandon’s creative process acting as an executive producer and art director. Together, as a cohesive unit, are developing the 360 vision for the Museum of R&B, and tailoring every thread to be experienced. Twilite Tone is credited with producing for The Gorillaz, Common, Kendrick Lamar, John Legend, Pusha T, Big Sean, Grace Jones, Mavis Staples, Benjamin Clementine, Cody Chesnutt and many more.
